Senior Options Homecare was created to fulfill the dream I had of providing quality, loving care to the increasing number of aging individuals.
My name is Debby Schaefer and I had the joy of helping my mom live to the age of 92. It wasn't always easy and there certainly wasn't a guided
path for me to follow to help my mom achieve a gentle and dignified style of life as she aged. She was always such a wise lady and with the onset
of dementia and so many aches and pains, the road we went down together was one of education and realization.
We checked nursing homes, assisted and independent living, and also the possibility of my mom living with me. This really couldn't work because
I just wasn't home enough of the time. My mom finally settled on selling her home and moving into an independent senior apartment complex that
provided all her meals and a small nursing staff, if she should have a simple cold or virus. This proved to work well for a while but changes
were inevitable as she aged. Again we looked around for another alternative but nothing seemed to offer the type of care she wanted.
I had no idea where to find the answers but together my mom and I achieved the best possible lifestyle for her which included in-home personal
care assistants. These assistants came to her apartment at the retirement community. Many times the care was not up to her standards and she
very definitely let me know. I made a promise to myself I would find her the very best in home care and I did. I educated myself and every
personal care assistant that came in to her home on all the problems associated with aging. This included incontinence, dementia, impaired vision
and hearing, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis just to name a few.
My Mom passed away in February of 2005, but I continue to use what I have learned to enable families and their loved ones to find the best possible
options for care.
